MYP 5 – Lab Report Skills Activity

In this activity, students will evaluate data relating to an investigation into the effect of changing colour of light on the rate of photosynthesis in an aquatic plant.
On the context page students are given an RQ, Hypothesis, IV, DV and a (deliberately) short list of control variables and equipment. The written procedure is also deliberately brief so as to give students enough scope to raise questions about the validity of the method.
A raw data table is provided so that students can calculate means and SD as necessary.
On the question page students are asked 8 questions to help them to address the skills assessed under Criterion C:
- organise and present data
- interpret the data
- evaluate the hypothesis
- evaluate the method and suggest improvements.
A weblink is provided to give them some direction when suggesting improvements.
